Eurocampus International School Shanghai, P.R. China, 2003

In September 2003 AS&P was invited to participate in the international urban design competition for the Eurocampus in Shanghai. The USD 18 million project was jointly initiated by Ecole Francaise de Shanghai and the Deutsche Schule Shangai. In addition to a kindergarten and schools sports facilities are also planned on the 48 ha site. As an international European school the Eurocampus will become a bridge between the cultures and serve as a meeting place and second home for both students and parents. In accordance with the Eurocampus' philosophy separate buildings for each country are not intended. AS&P designed six structures on the site, each with a respective open space. The concept proposes a school complex made up of individual areas, which offer numerous diverse spaces for studying and teaching. Whether in a classroom, under a tree or in the shade of a »colonnade« studying is seen as both a collective as well as individual activity. Consequently, the school was also organized according to student age groups instead of their nationalities.
