Study Allianz Arena München, 2001

After the fundamental decision against an extension of the existing Olympic Stadium in Munich was made another suitable location was to be designated for a new soccer stadium in the Bavarian capital. The clubs of TSV München von 1860 e.V. and FC Bayern München were striving for a critical analysis of various possible locations in order to find an appropriate site in cooperation with the city of Munich. Since the opening game for the 2006 world championship in soccer is scheduled to take place in Munich, the stadium must be completed a year in advance. A site needed to be found that was appropriate for a stadium with a capacity for 66.000 spectators and which would meet the FIFA specifications for holding the opening game of a world championship competition. AS&P was commissioned to compile an urban design study in this context. In addition to dealing with location options, the study was to provide an assessment of the perspectives of the subsequently necessary complex implementation measures of achieving legal planning ratification. When all relevant sectional planning aspects were accounted for the study was to serve as the basis for the final location decision.
